A DROITWICH Spa-based surgeon has backed new guidance on how Botox can be prescribed by doctors.

Cosmetic surgeon Dalvi Humzah, who is based at BMI The Droitwich Spa Hospital, has welcomed the decision to ban doctors from prescribing Botox via phone, email, video-link or fax under new guidance announced by the General Medical Council (GMC).

It means that doctors and nurse independent practitioners must undertake face-to-face physical examination of patients before prescribing non-surgical cosmetic medicinal products such as Botox, Dysport or Vistabel or other injectable cosmetic medicines - something Mr Humzah has been campaigning for at his own private practice since 2010.

Mr Humzah, who is on the General Medical Council’s (GMC’s) specialist register, says this is a massive step forward to ensure doctors, nurses and independent practitioners fully understand the patient’s medical history and reasons for wanting the treatment in the first place.
