DROITWICH Spa is preparing for a historic moment as the Olympic torch passes through the town.

The iconic flame will be carried by torchbearers through the streets of Droitwich and Fernhill Heath on Thursday, May 24 as part of the build up to the 2012 London games.

It will arrive in Ombersley Way at 5.45pm, travel through Covercroft, Ombersley Street East, St Andrews Road and Worcester Road before leaving at 6.15pm.

It will then arrive in Fernhill Heath at 6.20pm and take a route through Droitwich Road before departing at 6.34pm.

Residents can find out where the torch will be going should they want to line the streets and cheer on torchbearers by visiting wychavon.gov.uk/olympic-torch-relay.

Wychavon District Council is making arrangements for celebratory events in key locations as the flame passes by.

In Droitwich, the council will be organising a party for the crowds that gather to witness the once-in-a-lifetime occasion.

People from Droitwich, Bromsgrove and Worcester have been chosen to carry the torch through the town.

The ‘Party in the Square’ event will take place in Victoria Square from 4 to 6.30pm.

The packed programme offers live music from W-Factor finalists, Wychavon's Youth Music Project, demonstrations and performances from community groups, face painting, street entertainment and various other information stands from groups in the area. There will also be a dance and drumming performance and a pig roast at the Red Lion pub, Worcester Road.

The torch replay will also be passing Westacre Middle School, Ombersley Way, where Wychavon’s Youth Bus will be offering entertainment to pupils and young people.
