FIGHTERS from Droitwich Spa took part in a boxing contest to raise cash for good causes.

A capacity crowd were treated to 12 action packed fights at the first Box for Charity event at Lanes Bar, Worcester, on Saturday, February 4.

Seven Droitwich residents were in action, each raising money for their chosen charities.

Heavyweight Louis 'The Rocket' Robinson, who was boxing for Acorns Children’s Hospice and shed over two stone in the build up to his fight, won a tremendous battle against former Spa resident Kirk 'Haymaker' Harris. Both boxers gave their all with Louis finding the target with solid accurate jabs and combination punches.

He said: “It feels amazing, I trained so hard for this and can’t believe the weight i’ve lost. Taking part in Box for Charity has given me so much confidence.”

Lee 'The Bomber' Barnes, from Tibberton, raised £600 for his chosen charity Meningitis UK. He was declared the winner against Evesham firefighter Steve 'Going for Gold' Gould in one of fights of the night.

James 'Prettyboy' Harpa, raising cash for Help for Heroes, was up against heavy handed Bromsgrove boxer Glyn 'Tommo' Thomas, who was supporting the same cause. An even contest saw Thomas take a tight decision.

Dene 'Dynamo' Davies (Cancer Research), Ant 'Badboy' Badams (Children in Need) and Sam 'Pitbull' Gorman (British Heart Foundation) picked up good wins against tough opposition.

In one of the most skilful fights of the night, Davie 'Partyboy' Webb (Acorns Children’s Hospice) pushed Bromsgroves Andy 'Mavis' Davies all the way before losing on points.

Barnburner Promotions will be staging Box for Charity II on May 26. For tickets call 07541133844 or email barnburner@hotmail.co.uk
