Spa shoppers raise charity cash

GENEROUS shoppers at Waitrose in Droitwich have helped raise £351 for St Richard’s Hospice.

Waitrose donated the cash through the Community Matters scheme. Each month the Waitrose shop has £1,000 to divide between three local organisations. Customers are offered a token every time they shop and at the end of the month the tokens for each organisation are weighed. The beneficiaries then receive a proportion of the cash.

St Richard’s Hospice senior community fundraiser Alison Parkes said: “We are very grateful to all the shoppers in Waitrose in Droitwich who supported us. The more votes we had, the more pennies towards our work for patients and families. We would also like to thank Waitrose for choosing St Richard’s as one of the beneficiaries.”

St Richard’s Hospice provides free specialist palliative care for patients living with cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and supports their families. Each year the hospice team supports over 2,100 patients and family members in Worcestershire.

Patients are cared for in Day Hospice, the 16-bed In-patient Unit or in their own homes by a specialist professional team as well as many trained volunteers.

In the In-patient Unit specialist staff are on hand 24 hours a day to manage patients’ symptoms and where, if they so choose, patients may spend the last few days of life in comfort and dignity. St Richard’s is grateful for all donations towards the £4.8m they need to raise this year to continue their work.
