Spa Youth Zone to launch new sessions

DROITWICH Spa’s popular Youth Zone facility has now launched a host of new sessions hot on the heels of its future being secured in the town.

The High Street youth centre will now have an array of events aimed at 11 - 13 year olds. The latest update from the venue follows news that it can now stay for good after Wychavon District Council’s development control committee voted in favour of making the site a permanent feature.

The new sessions, which will be launched on Saturday, February 13 from 2pm - 4pm, are in response to regular requests from young people in the age group who regularly turn up but aren’t old enough for the main sessions. They will also have somewhere to go when they meet up with friends in town. The new sessions will then regularly take place on Fridays between 4pm and 6pm and Saturdays from 2pm – 4pm.

The sessions will offer opportunity to chill out with friends, play games, watch TV and participate in projects to raise awareness of ‘life as a teenager’. The young people will be expected to follow the Youth Zone ‘code of conduct’ and the sessions will be run by youth workers along with volunteers.

The launch event on February 13 will give youngsters and their parents the chance to call in, chat with staff and have a look around.

With just over 200 youngsters using it each week the facility offers a place for children and teenagers a place to meet with friends in a safe environment, participate in projects, gain volunteering experience and get help and advice on issues affecting their lives.

Facilities include chill out areas, TV, music deck, gaming, pool table, computer suite, art and music activities, games and refreshments.

Spa Youth Zone is also looking for more volunteers to assist with running both the 11 -13 and 13 – 17 sessions and would be pleased to hear from anyone who might be interested in helping.

Rob Mace, Spa Youth Zone manager, said: “We are pleased to be expanding our service to offer sessions for this younger age group.

“We know they like to meet up in town and Spa Youth Zone is an ideal place for them to chill out with friends in a safe environment and participate in fun activities.”
