A WOMAN has died after being hit by a train at Barnt Green Station in Worcestershire, in what emergency services called a "tragic accident".
West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) was called to the station on Fiery Hill Road shortly before 6.55am this morning (Thursday, February 9).
One ambulance, a paramedic area support officer and the Trust’s Hazardous Area Response Team were sent to the incident but the woman was confirmed dead at the scene.
A WMAS spokesman said: “On arrival, crews discovered a woman who had been seriously injured following a collision with a train.
“Unfortunately it quickly became apparent that nothing could be done to save her and she was confirmed dead at the scene.
“Early indications suggest the incident was a tragic accident.
“As normal in an incident of this nature, a full investigation will be carried out by British Transport Police to determine exactly what happened.”
British Transport Police confirmed the train involved was a Worcester to Birmingham New Street service.
A BTP spokesman said: "We were called to Barnt Green Station at 6.55am this morning after a report that a woman had been struck by a train.
"The ambulance service attended but the woman sadly died at the scene. The death is not believed to be suspicious at this time.
"A file will be prepared for the coroner.
"A second person was involved. They were seen on the tracks at the same time but did not receive any injuries."
Earlier trains to Worcester were delayed and cancelled, and train services remain affected as a result. Rail operator London Midland is urging passengers to check their journeys before travelling.
