DROITWICH Spa High School is offering parents the chance to pull their children out of a trip to Paris next year in the wake of the recent terror attacks.

Natalie Waters, headteacher of the school, said she had decided to write to families making the offer after a handful expressed concern about the trip.

The school plans to take 40 students aged between 14 and 17 on a visit to the French capital next Easter.

A similar visit took place successfully at Easter this year.

Although no-one has yet dropped out of the trip, the school said it had received concerned phone calls from parents in the wake of the Paris attacks.

129 were killed by terrorists armed with guns and grenades in the French capital on Friday, November 13.

Yesterday, the UK foreign office advised schools against upcoming school trips to France this weekend in line with advice given by the French authorities.

The French ministry of education cancelled all French school trips until after Sunday, November 22 as part of a national state of emergency.

Another school with a trip to Paris planned is Blessed Edward Oldcorne Catholic College, in Worcester.

Pupils will visit the city in February half-term.

Principal Sean Devlin said no-one had pulled out yet but he had received some emails from concerned parents asking if the trip would go ahead.

He said: “We will be very much guided by the Foreign Office and by the booking agents.

“If any concerned parents don’t want their children to go we would respect that and make arrangements to reimburse them.

“It is very sad but it could happen anywhere.

“If I had a trip going this weekend or next week I probably wouldn’t go because of the heightened security and sense of unease.

“But we will look closer to the date and consider carefully before making a final decision.”

Mr Devlin said visits aboard were very valuable and usually proved popular.

He said: “Often we can’t take everyone who wants to go.

“The trip might bring together elements of history, geography and languages, as well as being for those who want to go out and explore."

Our online readers were split on the issue.

Emma Frost said her daughter was due to go on the Paris trip with Blessed Edward Oldcorne College and would still be happy to go.

She said: “I can’t shield her from life experiences through my concerns of things happening.”

However, Sandra Mackenzie said she would no longer allow her daughter to go on a trip to Paris with Bishop Perowne CE College next year.
