IT is almost that time of the year again, when twinkling lights fill the high streets and Christmas carols fill the air.

With only 72 days until Christmas, the finishing touches are being put on plans for Droitwich's Christmas lights switch on.

The full entertainment programme for this year's switch on is being finalised, with Droitwich Town Council set to announce the full plans sometime over the next two weeks.

The switch on will take place on Saturday, November 28 and there will be entertainment running in the town throughout the day, starting from mid-morning until 9pm.

Mark Keld, assistant town clerk, said: "The actual switch on ceremony for the lights will take place outside St Richard's House at 4.30pm and the lights will be turned on by Councillor Graham Beale, the Mayor of Droitwich Spa.

"There is a new lighting arrangement this year for the façade of St Richard's House. The St Richard's Hospice Choir and the Norbury Theatre Choir will perform before and after the countdown to the lights switch on between 4pm and 5pm.

"Victoria Square will have the large fairground visiting town for the day and a festive market with community stalls provided by the Worcestershire Farmers' Markets group. The Lions Club will operate Santas' Grotto inside St Richard's House all day from 10am until 6pm and there will be other attractions inside the Tourist Information Centre.

"There will also be a seasonal community church service at St Andrew's Church at 5.15pm which will include the Community Choir and the Lighthouse Puppets Show."

In the High Street and Salt Barrow Market there will be festive stalls, reindeer ,a licensed bar and a pig roast from around noon until 9pm.

There will be live entertainment throughout the day on Salt Barrow Market from 11.30am with performances by the West Acre Middle School Choir and the Rock Choir.
