AN Alvechurch man has been sentenced to 13 years in jail following a number of violent and sexual assaults.

Stuart Bayley, 33, of Randall Avenue, Alvechurch, was sentenced at Worcester Crown Court for two counts of sexual activity with a child, rape, harassment, inflicting grievous bodily harm, wounding, battery and making threats to kill.

Some of the offences date back to 2003.

In addition to his 13 year prison sentence, handed to him last week, Bayley received an extended license for five years, and is required to register as a sex offender for life.

The officer in charge of the case, DC Sophie Gaffney said:"We are very pleased with the sentence Bayley has received.

"I would like to reassure anyone who has been or is a victim of any form of violence or sexual abuse that they can contact police and they will be listened to and treated with care and sensitivity.

"Together with partner agencies, we will give them all the support we can and where possible prosecute those responsible.
