A DROITWICH resident who won a competition to name a new beer for the recent Bromsgrove Beer and Cider Festival, is getting to see her brew still being sold across the region.

Sam Bradley named the beer ‘Fortitude’, and it went on to be selected to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Bromsgrove and Redditch CAMRA.

As a result the beer, which was brewed by Bird’s Brewery on Old Burcot Lane, received a further brewing, and went on to sell out at Bromsgrove Carnival earlier this month.

Now Brett Laniosh, national director of CAMRA and three times branch chairman, has said he’s happy for Bird’s Brewery to continue producing the ale.

He said: “40 years of campaigning for well run community pubs, great beer and cider is a remarkable achievement for Redditch and Bromsgrove CAMRA. It is fitting that one of our local breweries is involved in commemorating that celebration.”

Steve Hammond, director of Bird’s Brewery, added: “We are delighted the beer has proved so successful. It was an honour to be asked to produce something special for the anniversary of the local CAMRA branch and it’s an added bonus to be able to add Fortitude to our portfolio as a regular offering.”

Sam Bradley, who named the beer, said: “I was totally elated when Steve Hammond messaged me to say Fortitude was the chosen name. I thought 40 should be included and the definition of fortitude seemed to fit the campaign. I'm actually teetotal myself so it was just the privilege of naming something with a local focus that spurred me on.”

Fortitude is available to buy from the Bird’s Brewery shop and it is hoped a number of local pubs will also stock the beer.
