PEOPLE who turned out to the Lido Park over the weekend recently for an afternoon of music in the sunshine, were treated to a free cafe to customer waitering service, courtesy of the Droitwich Youth Council.

The youngsters offered up their services to relaxing locals who had come to watch a free performance by Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra in the bandstand.

The crowd had been invited to bring their picnic blankets and chairs along to the first of the free summer concerts in the park, and the Youth Council through it sounded like a great time to spread some community spirit while raising the profile of the council.

Volunteers made trips back and forth from the Lido Cafe to the audience members, bringing them cold drinks and snacks while they listened to the music.

Amanda and Ray Horbin, from Kidderminster, were in the park to see their son, Ben play in the bandstand.

Amanda said: “We were really impressed with the enterprise of the Youth Council bringing the cafe to us while we were watching Ben perform. I fancied a coffee but hadn't quite got the inclination to fetch one.”

Councillor Richard Morris, introduced the orchestra, and acted as greeter for the council. He added: “It was a great afternoon in the park. Worcestershire Youth Jazz Orchestra were excellent and the Youth Council enjoyed helping those in attendance enjoy the day.”

Droitwich Youth Council is planning to offer the same waitering service at the summer concert on Sunday, July 19.
