AS part of Dementia Awareness Week there will be two events taking place around Droitwich Spa.

The week, which is organised to raise awareness of Dementia throughout society, is running throughout the country from May 17 to 23.

The first event is being organised by the Alzheimer’s Society on Sunday, May 17 at the Coach House in Ombersley.

People will be able to come along and enjoy an afternoon of fun with a cake stall, food and drink, face painting, a tombola, and garden games, as well as a session of singing for the brain, and a chance to make jewellery.

BBC Antiques Roadshow expert Henry Sandon will also be on hand at the fun day to value any ceramics people would like to bring along, and he will be treating his audience to anecdotes from his career on the programme.

Visitors are being asked to make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society for their valuations.

A spokesman for the Alzhemer’s Society, said: “We strongly believe that life doesn’t end when dementia begins and we do everything we can to help those living with dementia hold on to their lives and the things they love for longer. “As the population ages, we all face the risk of one day developing dementia but with the right support people with the condition can continue to do the things they love and lots, lots more.”

The second event is a drop in session and talk, organised by Age UK and will be taking place at Droitwich Library Tuesday, May 19 from 1-6pm. People will be able to ask for advice and information on living with dementia as well as finding out more about how they can help other people with dementia in the community to cope more easily.

The talk, which is being given by local dementia adviser Carolyn Pym, will be taking place from 5-6pm in the library.

The fun day in Ombersley will be taking place from 12 noon to 4pm. For more information, contact the Alzhiemer’s Society on 01905 621 887. For more information on the drop in session at the library, contact Age UK on 01905 740950.
