A MAN was knocked unconscious during an unprovoked attack from behind by a group of men as he was walking home alone in Droitwich last night (Thursday, April 9).

The 32-year-old man was walking along Meadow Walk, away from the town centre towards the Westlands estate in Droitwich, sometime between 11.50pm and midnight last night.

As he was heading home he was approached by a group of about five males, believed to be in their late teens or early twenties.

One of the group asked the man for a pound coin and he handed one over. This was followed by another request for a second pound coin, which he provided for a second time.

The man then carried on but as he continued along Meadow Walk he realised he was being followed by the group.

He was suddenly hit on the back of the head and fell to the ground, where he possibly lay unconscious for a brief period of time.

When he came around a fight then broke out between him and the group, and a number of them may have sustained some injuries.

Police are now investigating the report of the robbery and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

PC Simon Timbrell would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information which might help his enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call West Mercia Police on 101 and ask to speak to PC Timbrell on extension 4985 quoting incident 0005s 100415.
