CHILDREN at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School in Droitwich have been learning all about the Hindu Festival of Holi with a huge playground explosion of colour.

As part of a project learning about the Hindu faith, the youngsters looked into the festival day of Holi, a Hindu festival of colour and love, by enjoying their own colour party recently, throwing colour powder at each other.

The festival is celebrated each Spring in India where there is a carnival of colours, with people chasing each other in the streets with dry powder paints and coloured water, and where everyone takes part regardless of whether they are friends or strangers.

Helen Smith, diversity and inclusion leader at St Joseph’s, said: "We have been learning about the Hindu faith all week as part of our Super Learning week. As a school, we believe it is very important that we all have an understanding and an awareness of all faiths and cultures. It is wonderful we live in such a diverse community in Droitwich and we all appreciate what we can learn from each other. As part of our Catholic faith, we like to value every individual and celebrate this.

"We also have links with Ashray School in Varanasi. It was amazing to celebrate Holi just like our link school will have done in India."

Year six pupil, Katie Newton said: "It was epic. It is important to learn about different faiths, otherwise we don't understand how others think about the world."

Aiden Ley, a year four pupil, added: "When you looked at the clothes it was beautiful; all the different colours."
