A BOY who was airlifted to hospital with suspected spinal injuries from the Glyn Mitchell Memorial Ground, off Hanbury Road in Droitwich on Sunday has been discharged from hospital.

The seven-year-old boy had been playing a game of non-contact rugby at Droitwich Rugby Club when he fell and another player fell on him.

Toby DuPont, chairman of the minis and juniors section at Droitwich Rugby Club, said: "As soon as we realised how serious it was he was taken to hospital, but he has now been discharged and he's back home. I've been in contact with his family and he's fine.

"It was the sort of thing that could have happened in the school playground, and at first it didn't look like anything.

"I'd like to offer our thanks to the ambulance service and the air ambulance who both responded very quickly."
