IT was a huge success for the town’s lantern parade as organised struck out on their own for the first time, following last year’s success at the Droitwich Christmas lights switch-on.
Approximately 400 people turned out to Lido Park, nearly double the number that took part last year, including children from nearly all the schools in Droitwich, and one of the local scout troops. Some brought lanterns from home, but many of them made their own lanterns, and brought them along for the parade.
Rosie Philpott who helped to organise the event, said: “There were lots of different shapes and sizes of lanterns. It was lovely. It was a really cold night, but it was clear, and when we arrived at the bandstand the Salvation Army band started playing and the community choir. We want to make it an annual thing.”
Local singer songwriter Abby Inez entertained the crowds before the parade, and Father Christmas joined children on their walk through the park.
