LOVERS of Droitwich’s Space Day might be interested to find out more about a new book being launched by a former project engineer from the Summerfield Rocket research station just outside Droitwich.

Hugh Nicolson will be at the town library signing copies of a book he’s written about his experiences, after working on the advancement of solid propellant technology at the station, making it a world leader in certain important areas of space flight and missile control such as decreasing exhaust smoke, and ensuring that rockets stayed on track when thrusting their engines.

Mr Nicolson’s book ‘Summerfield – The History of a Rocket Research Establishment’ tells the story of the Summerfield Research Station where he worked for more than 30 years, from when it opened in 1951, and he began his career as a draughtsman on the design of rocket motors using solid propellants, to his eventual role as a senior project engineer working on the design of rocket motors for many British missiles, before he retired in 1988.

He will be at Droitwich Library, signing copies of the book on Saturday, December 6 from 2pm and anyone is welcome to come along and find out more.

Copies of the A4 sized book are £10 for members of the British Interplanetary Society, and £12 for non-members.

If anyone cannot attend the event, but would still like to obtain a copy of the book, they should call 020 7735 3160 for more information.
