ANYONE who has ever thought of becoming a local councillor on a parish or district level is being invited to come along to a special event to find out more about what the role involves.

In May of 2015, there will be an opportunity for people to stand as candidates in parish council elections across the district, as well as for Wychavon District Council, making important decisions that affects people’s everyday lives, and representing their views and thoughts.

The event is taking place on November 20 from 6.15pm in the district’s Civic Centre, and people will be able to find out about what it’s like to be a district councillor, what responsibilities go with the role , who is eligible to stand in elections, and what they should do if they’re interested in standing.

Councillor Lynne Duffy, chairman of Wychavon District Council, said: “We want people to come forward and find out a bit more about being a councillor. It can be a time consuming role, but you certainly get back what you put in and councillors tell us they also find it very rewarding. “

Anyone wishing to attend the event is asked to contact the council on 01386 565427 or for more information, visit wychavon.gov.uk/how-to-become-a-wychavon-district-councillor where there is a short video and lots of information.
