THE Norbury Theatre is holding a Noel Coward Night on Friday, October 3 to celebrate the quintessentially English playwright with a cycle of 10 one-act plays.
All 10 plays were written as a collection in 1935, and they are to be performed over three evenings at the theatre.
The plays were written following the huge success of Coward’s play ‘Private Lives’ which was originally performed by Coward himself, alongside actress Gertrude Lawrence.
The two performers had proved so popular together on stage that Coward wrote these plays as what he called ‘acting, singing, and dancing vehicles’ for them to keep performing together.
Theatre-lovers may also enjoy taking part in the Norbury Play Readings, where people gather together in the Norbury’s member’s bar on the first Friday of the month at 7.30pm to read a play.
