GOLFERS at a Droitwich club have raised thousands of pounds for charity with a marathon golfing challenge.

Keen players turned up to Gaudet Luce Golf Club at 4.15am recently to start a challenge which would last more than 12 hours.

The teams of four took on the Macmillan Longest Day Challenge, playing four complete rounds of the golf on the course in one day, a feat which took them more than 14 hours.

Ade Cook, Wilf Mason, Phil Glover, Dave Wheatley, Roy Everett, Gillian Berry, Dan Richards and Dean Pointon played more than 72 holes during the day, hitting more than 2,500 shots.

The team members collected sponsorship from club members, friends and family before the event, whilst their caddies added to the collection on the day by persuading anyone on the course to give donations to the fundraising efforts, all of which went toward the joint captain’s charity for 2014, Macmillan Cancer Care in Worcestershire.

The eight golfers raised an impressive £4,000 for the charity.
