A FIREFIGHTER from Droitwich is taking on a 21-mile walking challenge whilst dressed in his full work uniform, to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice.

49-year-old Peter Doran is taking on the epic walk along the riverside from Droitwich Marina along the River Severn to Diglis, then Worcester, before returning to Droitwich along the restored Worcester and Birmingham canal.

Mr Doran will pass 41 locks as part of his walk on Sunday, August 17 after agreeing to take on the challenge for a close friend and fellow Droitwich resident Elaine Tesho, who organises a range of fundraising activities for the hospice.

Ms Tesho organises the events as part of ‘Carry on Fundraising’ something she set up to help the hospice, where her sister Lisa receives care.

She has already recently organised a Race Night at the Star and Garter, with a pub crawl planned around Droitwich on September 2, and bag packing planned for Morrisons, Droitwich, in December.

Mr Doran said: “I wanted to help Elaine and Lisa to raise money for St Richard’s Hospice as they have been treated very well by the hospice and want to raise money so that other patients and their families can benefit from its peaceful setting and compassionate care. I’m expecting it to be quite a challenge to walk such a distance in all my fireman’s equipment, but it’s all for a good cause.”
