YEAR seven students from Droitwich’s two middle schools had a chance to find out more about France with a special morning organised at Droitwich Spa High School recently.

30 pupils from Witton Middle School and Westacre Middle School took part in the French morning, getting an insight into French cultural life, while preparing the students for starting to study French after the summer holidays.

During the course of the morning the students got familiar with the school’s home economics kitchens, making their own crème patissière tarts, before recreating the storming of the Bastille on the main landing and classrooms of the school, and taking part in a game of ‘baguette hockey’.

Samantha Goss who teaches modern foreign languages at the school, said: “We are really excited about our annual French morning. The storming of the Bastille is so important in French history and it was great for the students to understand what happened and why it is so significant for the French.”

Jo Vicary put the morning together with Ms Goss. She added: “The morning is part of our transition programme from year seven to year eight and gives the students the chance to get used to high school life. It is a lively and engaging way to introduce them to French culture.”
