IT was a hot competition, but the search to find Droitwich’s best sausage ended in triumph for Crossway Green company Little Black Pig Willow Farm.

The competition, which was run as part of the Droitwich Spa Food and Drink Festival, invited local producers to pit their sausages up against one another.

13 entries were received for the contest, and a judging panel led by food critic and BBC Masterchef judge Charles Campion.

Little Black Pig came out on top with its traditional pork sausage.

Kate Daniels from the company, said: ”Little Black Pig is a small holding - we raise our own meat and sell it direct to the consumer at the farm-gate. We're a Droitwich family so I couldn't be prouder than I am as winner of Droitwich Best Sausage. It's all about tasty meat from healthy and happy animals. This award feels like a pat on the back from the people of Droitwich - I'd like to thank all our loyal customers who have made this possible”

The Gardener’s Arms pub on Vines Lane came in as runner up, receiving a highly commended award for its Spanish sausage, featuring a mixture of pork and chorizo.
