DROITWICH residents who are interested in learning sign language are being invited to come and take a look at a Signalong course.

The introductory course has been organised by the Droitwich Spa and Rural Council for Voluntary Service, in a bid to introduce communication skills to new staff and family members at the council.

Signalong is a sign supported communication system, with aims to enable children and adults with speech, language and communication needs to overcome difficulties and to reach their full potential.

The system is based on British Sign Language, and also uses other communication tools including facial expressions, body language and voice tone.

The course is taking place on Tuesday, July 8 from 9.30am to 4pm at the Old Library in Ombersley Street East.

The course aims to help people understand the benefits of visual communication, teach hand shapes required to create signs, and help people learn the movements and directions required to deliver signs.

The course is £27 for council members or £30 for non-members. For information on becoming a member please call 01905 779115 or write to events@droitwichcvs.org.uk.
