DROITWICH youngsters have been taking a special trip to the woods.

Children form the kindergarten and reception classes at Dodderhill School participated in a woodland experience as part of Dodderhill's Forest School programme.

During the trip the youngsters enjoyed hands on activities, which were designed for them to appreciate nature and learn to respect natural places.

Tracey Palmeri, head of the junior department at Dodderhill School, said: “Forest Schools is an inspirational programme that enables children to experience nature first hand through a series of engaging and achievable tasks, such as building a shelter, or climbing on a rope course.

“The activities often require the use of a range of tools depending on the age of the children.

"As a group becomes more comfortable with living and working in the woodland, the programme becomes more learner-led and is a journey of discovery directed by the children.

“We’re fortunate to have such beautiful woodland within the school grounds so it’s the ideal setting for the Forest School programme.”
