WEBSTER the guide dog puppy made a return to Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold recently, before he begins his specialist training.

The puppy, which was named by the store’s customers, was brought in for a surprise visit by puppy walkers Ann and Jim Simonds.

Customers were given the chance to name Webster after raising more than £5,000 for the charity Guide Dogs to sponsor him for the first year of his life.

Mrs Simonds said: “Webster was a delight, from the very beginning he was calm and as he grew older he remained calm but also, like any young dog, he was boisterous and always excited when meeting humans or dogs. He did this a lot as we had to make sure he was socialised in all sorts of environments and with people and dogs of all ages. We used to take him on the bus and the train, into supermarkets and shops, literally anywhere he would have to go when he qualifies as a working guide dog.

“We will miss him, but know that he is going to go on to change someone’s life and we feel proud to have played a part in making that difference.”

Webbs Chairman Ed Webb, added: “It was lovely to see Webster again today. With the care and love of Ann and Jim he has grown into a fine young dog and I’m sure will go on to prove a life-line to his new owner. He’s won over the hearts of lots of our staff and customers and we have been thrilled to help such a great cause.”
