New housing support for young people in Droitwich

First published in Local

YOUNG people and families in Droitwich are being offered support in issues surrounding housing, as part of services being commissioned by Worcestershire County Council.

Help on offer will include tips on managing money, becoming a better tenant, and maintaining a household, as well as housing providers possibly offering short-term accommodation, and supporting first-time tenants and home owners.

The new support services hope to tie in those already offered through housing support to those offered to young people in need of their own accommodation for the first time.

As part of the move to the new services, Worcestershire County Council is visiting a number of schools and communities around the county from May 12-16 to ask young people what they like about the support they might already receive, as well as support they might find useful in future.

Wychavon's Youth Bus is also being used to engage with young people, as well as creating awareness videos that will be shared through social media channels.

Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children and families, said: “Youth homelessness is a growing concern and we want to make sure we commission the best possible services to support young people and their families. By talking to current providers, young people and service users we can find out about the different needs and how best we can support those who need help."
