THE Newly appointed County Organiser for the National Gardens Scheme in Worcestershire is on the hunt for hidden gardens in the county to take part.

David Morgan, who was appointed to the voluntary position late last year, is trying to encourage garden enthusiasts to consider opening their garden up to the public next year, either as an individual garden or as part of a group of several gardens.

“Gardens don’t have to be large – in fact the smallest garden in the scheme is only slightly bigger than an average sized lounge," he said. "And garden owners don’t need a degree in horticulture either – just genuine interest and enthusiasm."

"All gardens have to be assessed to ensure they will keep up the standard of gardens as visitors expect a reasonable level when they pay their entry fees, but we are not looking for professional show gardens or perfection, just an acceptable level of interest for visitors, some passable planting schemes and if possible, some refreshments as garden visitors do enjoy their cup of tea and cake whilst viewing the gardens.”

Open gardens help raise considerable funds for healthcare and nursing charities including Macmillan Nurses, Marie Curie, Help the Hospices and The Carer’s Trust.

For details or if you would like your garden considered for the NGS call Mr Morgan on 0121 445 3595 or email meandi@btinternet.com.

Or people can visit his own garden at 504 Birmingham Road, Bromsgrove, which will be open on Sunday, May 25 from 11 am to 5.30 pm. Entry is £3.
