THIS month, the Norbury Theatre in Droitwich is stepping back in time to take a look at the lighter side of the second world war, with a stage production of Dad’s Army scripted by original writers Jimmy Perry and David Croft.

The play, which follows the antics of Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and the other familiar faces from the Walmington on Sea platoon of the Home Guard, is being staged by the Norbury Players as an amateur production from Thursday, May 8 to Saturday, May 10, and then from Thursday, May 15 to Saturday, May 17.

The play brings three episodes of the classic BBC comedy series to the stage: The Deadly Attachment, in which the platoon have to guard a captured German U-boat captain and his crew; Mum’s Army, which sees the Home Guard recruiting women; and The Godiva Affair, in which the platoon are rehearsing a Morris Dancing routine for an upcoming carnival parade.

Tickets are £10 or £9 for concessions, and the performances begin at 7.30pm. Tickets can be purchased via the Norbury’s box office on 01905 770154 or at norburytheatre.co.uk.
