A NEW team of fundraisers from the Rotary Club has taken over the management of Droitwich Spa’s Poppy Appeal and Remembrance parade for November this year with new financial controls put in place to ensure every penny raised goes into the British Legion funds.

The operation has been split into different activities, and Individuals with organising skills are set to manage everything to do with one activity, and arrange help from other volunteers.

The teams are seeking volunteers to help with each of the teams from managing the overall events, to activities connected with the wreathes, co-ordinating all the Poppy sales activities and commanding the parade.

There will also be two small remembrance parades in July and August to mark the 100th anniversary of the start of the First World War on July 28, 1914.

On Sunday, July 13, school children will be setting crosses, and there will be a writing and drawing competition commemorating the anniversary.

Fundrasiers are planning to publish the best poems, essays and pictures in a booklet, which will be sold to raise further money for the Poppy Appeal.

Anyone wanting to help with organising the Poppy Appeal events, or participate in them, should contact the Royal British Legion branch secretary, Alan Newman, on 07870 311036.

Anyone wishing to help sponsor the booklet, should contact Droitwich town councillor Richard Morris on 07860 733 460.
