THE Girls Aloud singer and West End actress Kimberley Walsh is teaming up with Specsavers in Droitwich, and the anti-bullying charity Kidscape, to launch this year’s Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition.

The competition, which is run nationally, looks for one lucky glasses wearer, who will win £10,000 in cash and holiday to the Bahamas.

Emma Singh, store director at Specsavers in Droitwich, said: “We know that people in Droitwich love their glasses and we want to celebrate it. The Spectacle Wearer of the Year competition gives us the opportunity to prove that glasses are fabulous at any age by celebrating the specs wearers right on our doorstep who wear them with pride and plenty of style.”

Ms Walsh added: “I love my glasses, I like to make a real statement by wearing something bold. They are such a part of who you are and a fun way to express yourself. Everyone should wear their specs with pride.

“I’ve been wearing glasses for six years. I think I let my eyes get a little bit worse than I should have before I did start wearing them but now I have fully embraced them - it’s a new look for me.”

The competition is split into four age categories for 16-24s; 25-39s; 40-59s and people aged 60+, as well as incorporating a Facebook favourite voted for by the public.

The winner from each of the categories will win a VIP makeover, with a celebrity-studded grand final in London in October.

Anyone who wears glasses, can enter the competition either at, via Facebook at, or at the store in Droitwich.
