STUDENTS in Droitwich are being encouraged to consider taking on the role of a personal assistant (PA) in adult social care as a paid job.

The call comes from Worcestershire County Council, which is interested in the role the PAs will be playing in future plans for adult social care.

PAs usually work part time in clients’ homes, helping out with everything from shopping, and accessing community services, to visiting libraries for people, and helping them get to other leisure activities.

The job is often very flexible, which the county council is hoping means it would suit the changeable hours of many students.

Councillor Sheila Blagg, cabinet member with responsibility for adult social care, said: "Young carers do some amazing work by looking after family members and others in the community.

“It is important that we understand their views and make sure they get the advice, guidance and support they need to continue with such an important role or take the first steps to becoming a confident carer.”

Anyone wanting to find out more about becoming a PA can register on the Carewise website at whub.org.uk/carewise where service users or clients can search for the people who best suit their requirements.
