PLANS are already underway for one of the UKs largest one-day village events, the Hanbury Countryside Show.

Last year 6,500 visitors attended the agricultural and community event in Hanbury, taking in the arena displays of everything from working dogs and heavy horses, to stunt quad bike riders, and showjumping.

The event has been running as a horse show and gymkhana since 1947, and was taken over by the Heath Family Farm in 1985.

Now 22 years old Richard Heath took over as the driving force behind the show in 2011, growing it to include arenas, craft stalls, and local produce.

This year he’s introducing horticultural and homebaking sections, and growing the food and craft marquees, as well as introducing pigs, alpacas, and the Midlands Bird of Prey Rescue.

He said: “The show offers a fantastic day out for the whole family, giving an insight into countryside pursuits and where our food comes from. There’s also plenty to buy from basketware and sausages to jewellery and ice-cream, all made locally.”

Tickets for the Hanbury Countryside Show can be purchased at hanburyshow.co.uk or in Worcestershire from the Jinney Ring Craft Centre and the Feckenham Village Shop.
