AFTER an extensive improvement and refurbishment programme over the last few months, Droitwich Spa Community Centre’s main hall is set to reopen with the completed series of heritage banners to tell the history of the town.

The centre received funding from Droitwich Spa Town Council and Wychavon District Council to pay for a full internal redecoration of the hall, which included internal insulation and the installation of a fan ventilation system. Radiators in the building were replaced, and improvements were made to the spotlights, while work was also done to improve the main entrance foyer, and the decor of the kitchen. On the outside of the building, repairs were undertaken to the roof’s drain pipe system, and all the external stone work was rendered.

The hall will receive an official opening from town mayor Councillor Tom Noyes on Monday, March 31, who will also be unveiling the series of heritage banners, which tell the pictorial history of Droitwich.

The first three banners were hung in 2005, but all 12 have only just been completed, showing scenes from AD43 to 1870, and will hang in the main hall of the community centre.

All the scenes depicted on the banners were researched and created by Alan Davey, a local artist as a recreational project.

Once it reopens, the community centre will be available to hire by different community groups.
