DROITWICH cheese lovers are getting the chance to create their own flavour of cheese as part of a competition with Webbs Garden Centre.
The centre has teamed up with Worcester-based Croome Cuisine to let keen culinary experimenters try out their ideas for flavor combinations.
Croome Cuisine already has several unusual flavor combinations in its cheeses including Worcester Sauce and shallots, Hereford hop, scrumpy and crunchy apple, and even figs and honey produced from Webbs’ own beehives, but now the companies are inviting cheese fans to make their own suggestions.
Webbs chairman, Ed Webb said: “Our fig and honey cheese was a big hit so we thought it would be a great idea to let customers come up with their own ideas for cheese flavours. We are looking for a wonderful flavour combination to be added to Cheddar cheese. It could be a taste you love, an iconic Worcestershire ingredient or an unusual flavour you think would taste incredible in a cheese.”
Nick Hodgetts from Croome Cuisine, added: "We are thrilled to be supporting Webbs with this competition. At Croome Cuisine we support creativity and innovation. We encourage flavour suggestions from staff, family, friends and customers we meet at farmers markets and shows. We are looking forward to seeing some fantastic flavour combinations from Webbs customers....let your imagination run wild."
The winning entry will be made into cheese to be sold at Webbs later this year, with the winner having the chance to see their cheese being made at Croome Cuisine. The winner will also be awarded a 2.8kg truckle of their own flavoured cheese.
Entry forms are available in Webbs, and the competition is set to run until Monday, March 31.
