A WOMAN from Droitwich Spa has pleaded guilty to causing the death of an 80-year-old man by careless driving.

Deirdre Smart, 59, of Alder Grove, Droitwich, admitted driving a Ford Fiesta without due care and attention on the afternoon of May 25 last year in Hurst Lane, Fernhill Heath.

Pedestrian Barry Embling, of Brockhampton Close, Blackpole, Worcester, was seriously injured in the collision and died in hospital on June 8. He was carrying no identification at the time and police issued an appeal to find out his identity.

A pre-sentence report was ordered and Smart is due to return to court for sentencing on March 18.
