A DROITWICH woman has been appointed to help provide a specialist support service in Worcester.

Amanda Willetts has been chosen as the new manager at Shaw Healthcare's Stuart House after more than 11 years of dedicated service at the centre.

Stuart House is a specialist service which comprises of six self-contained flats that include their own lounge and kitchen areas. Support workers are able to provide round-the-clock care and support to its residents with learning disabilities and enduring mental health issues.

Miss Willetts began work at the site as an administrator after transferring from Worcester Intermediate Care Unit, where she held the same position. She then took on the role of support worker at the service and served as a team leader for five years.

In a unique take on the appointment process, Shaw healthcare utilised the help of the Stuart House residents to select a candidate for the managerial role. After being shortlisted for interview, candidates were faced with questions devised by the service users themselves.

In her new role as manager, Miss WiIletts will continue to provide care and support to service users whilst also ensuring that Stuart House complies with care quality regulations. She will also be responsible for staff training and making sure all support workers receive mentoring.

Miss Willetts said: “My ethos has always been that the care of service users must come first. They all have very different needs and our job is to meet those needs and help our service users reach their full potential."
