KEEN walkers in Bromsgrove are being asked to join in with a fundraising pensioner on a 12-mile walk for the Stroke Association.

Charlie Hodges is setting out on his walk from the Life After Stroke Centre in Bromsgrove at 1pm on Monday, March 24.

He will be heading south from the centre until he reaching his own finish line at the winning Post public house in Worcester.

People are being invited to sponsor him or join him on his walk either at the beginning, or for a shorter six-mile walk from the Halifax bank in Droitwich.

Mr Hodges lost his wife to a stroke 12 years ago, and started raising money for the charity after asking for donations instead of presents on his 70th birthday.

He said: “I was devastated when I lost my wife but fundraising for the Stroke Association gives me hope that other families will not have to suffer this loss in the future.”

People taking part in the walk will be able to refuel at their destination with staff at the Winning Post pub serving up bangers and mash, while there will also be something of a party atmosphere with musical entertainment and a raffle to raise even more money for the charity.

Mr Hodges has asked that volunteers for the walk get as much sponsorship as they can, and if possible, also make a donation for the evening’s entertainment and food.

For more information on the walk, or to sign up, call Mr Hodges on 07791 560818 or 01905 421324.
