RESIDENTS and motorists have been urged to stay safe during flooding.

Worcestershire County Council has issued advice to people across the county and asked them to look out for friends, relatives and neighbours.

Councillor Marcus Hart, cabinet member for health and well-being for the authority, said: "This is a difficult time for Worcestershire residents who are affected by the recent floods, and we must all work together to ensure that we stay safe.

"I would urge everyone to stay away from the flood water and parents in particular should ensure that children do not play in the water. There is a risk of infection, serious injury or even drowning.

"Sensible precautions should be taken where preparing food. Please wash your hands and food thoroughly, ensuring that any food touched by flood water is not eaten. Parents who are feeding babies on formula feed should take particular caution when preparing formula if your drinking water supply is either interrupted or contaminated by the flooding.

"There have been tragic incidents in the news recently about carbon monoxide poisoning. Please do not use any petrol or diesel generators in your home."
