THE Bromsgrove Operatic Society (BOS) has issued an open invitation to anyone who has ever dreamed of singing and dancing in a musical.

The group, which has been staging musicals and operas since 1981, is holding open auditions for the musical Crazy For You.

This is the first time it has held open auditions, which will take place on Sunday, January 26.

Recently appointed director Chris Love is keen to see as many people as possible and help shine the spotlight on a potential Michael Ball or Ruthie Henshall.

Mr Love said: "It’s so exciting to have open auditions. It means anyone can show up and show off. This isn’t about fitting a mould or trying to walk in somebody else’s shoes, it’s about bringing your own skills and personality to the show.

"If you have guts and passion and want to push yourself and be the best you can be, then you’re what this show needs. I’m interested in what you can do, not what you can’t do.”

Soceity chairman Ian G Cox added: “We are thrilled to be working with this highly talented and imaginative director. I am confident his innovative style and approach will inspire and motivate all involved in this wonderful show."

Based on the 1930ʼs Hollywood film Girl Crazy, the musical opens in New York City where stage-struck playboy Bobby Child dreams of making it big on Broadway.

He is instead sent out west to a small town in Nevada, under orders to close down the local theatre.

Bobby soon falls for the theatre manager’s daughter Polly and, in order to save the theatre from foreclosure, dreams up the idea to put on a show, raise the money and save the day.

This extravaganza of a show is filled with a host of marvellous characters, a delightfully witty script by writer Ken Ludwig, and features an abundance of high-energy comedy and some fabulous dancing.

The acclaimed Gershwin musical is also packed full of classic hits including I Got Rhythm, Someone To Watch Over Me, Embraceable You, They Canʼt Take That Away From Me, Shall We Dance, But Not For Me and Nice Work If You Can Get It.

The show was originally presented on Broadway in 1992, winning the Tony and Drama Desk Award for Best Musical.

It also won the Olivier Award for Best New Musical when it transferred to London in 1993.
