A DROITWICH Spa children's writer is celebrating after publishing her first book.

The story, called Flo and Teddy Visit the Fair, has been written by aspiring town author Louise Lench and follows the adventures of an elephant called Flo and a tiger called Teddy.

The book was published in December 2013 after funds were raised online in aid of the project after a Kickstarter appeal failed to gather enough support.

It is the first in a series of books aimed at two to five year olds and is available in hard copy at floandteddy.co.uk or via Amazon for Kindle in eBook format.

Flo and Teddy came to life when Louise was inspired to write by her three year old son after struggling to find books she felt were appropriate.

The books have simple storylines that a young child can relate to but also encompass some important social and moral issues that all children can learn as they grow.

The stories have also been illustrated by the author’s friend and Midland rocker Nick J Townsend.

The Kidderminster-born musician, who is a resident in Stourbridge, has always had a passion for art and agreed to illustrate the book for free.

Nick finally kept a promise to illustrate Louise’s first children's book after the pair were reunited. The friends lost contact after Louise moved to London and only got back in touch after she spotted Nick years later on a TV news feature about his band WEAK13.

She said: “I felt like I wasn't giving my son enough with the books I was buying. Whilst he is only three he wants and needs a longer narrative, with a storyline he can relate to. I found it almost impossible to buy books that gave me at least 15 minutes of reading time as a minimum with my son. So I set out to invent Flo and Teddy, initially I would make the stories up at bedtime, but he loved them so much I felt I needed to bring them out to the public.

Flo and Teddy Publishing is also running a scheme to enable children from different backgrounds access to books. Buyers can choose packages at a discounted rate on the website which enable Flo and Teddy Publishing to send out books to children who need them, there is more information on how you can help donate books on the official website at floandteddy.co.uk
