PEOPLE can enjoy a winter walk near Droitwich Spa.

Anyone wanting to get out and about in the great outdoors is invited to join the Ramblers’ Festival of Winter Walks.

For more than 25 years, family, friends and avid walkers have stepped out in snow, sleet, rain and under clear winter skies as part of the annual festival.

This year the group is once again providing free winter walks in the area led by volunteers from until January 5, 2014.

From an amble to the pub on Christmas Eve to a lengthy hike to start the new year, there are hundreds of free walks to suit everyone.

For the first time, Walking for Health - run by Ramblers and Macmillan Cancer Support - will also be participating by offering short walks for those new to walking, or those who would like to get started with the help of supportive and friendly volunteers.

A seven mile walk in Droitwich will take place on Sunday, December 29.

Anyone interested should meet at Waitrose car park, Saltway, Droitwich, ready to walk at 11am.

Group chief executive Benedict Southworth said: “There is something wonderful about walking over the festive season; the company of family and friends, exploring beautiful winter landscapes under clear skies or the fun of being the first to make tracks in the snow, all of these things make getting out and about at this time of year even more of an adventure.
