A DEVELOPMENT of affordable homes at Droitwich Spa's former medals office site has been completed.
Festival Housing, one of the county’s leading landlords, has provided a total of 18 two, three and four bedroom environmentally-friendly properties for rent and shared ownership at Harrison Park, off Worcester Road.
Mandy Edghill, who is a housing officer based at Festival Housing's Droitwich office, said that all the properties exceeded general building regulations for sustainability.
“All the affordable properties have been built to code level three standard which assesses sustainability against nine categories, including use of energy, water and carbon dioxide use, the impact on the ecology and the health and well being of residents.
Donna Innett, who was one of the first purchasers of a five shared ownership home, said that the development had helped her to get a foothold on the housing ladder again.
“I am really happy with my new home. It was a push to save for my deposit but it has all been worth it as the house is absolutely beautiful and I am thrilled to be in the housing market again,” said the single mother of three, who works for West Mercia Police.
The site was named Harrison Park after town First World War hero, Sergeant Ted Harrison, who was awarded the Military Medal for ‘conspicuous bravery and gallantry in the field’ in July 1917 before being killed in action in France. The name was thought appropriate as the land used to be the site of the army medals office.
