CHILDREN at Ombersley Endowed First School and Nursery have stepped up to the cake stand to compete in a bake off event.

The annual Great Ombersley Bake Off , now in its second year, classes compete against each other to raise funds that help to support their own learning and development within the current academic year.

Each class gets to keep the money they have raised to spend on their own learning resources.

Headteacher Caroline Moore said: “It is completely up to each class how they promote their event but the aim is to make the most money using their combined baking and selling talents. At the end of the academic year, the winning class is presented with the fabulous Bake Off Cup and awarded the coveted title of Ombersley Bake Off Champions. The children are not told how much they have raised until all classes have competed.

“Our year three children have done a superb job. Thank you to all the parents who have worked so hard to make so many delicious cakes and to everyone who has supported the class by stopping and buying them.”

The bake-off is organised by the Friends of Ombersley School, which has raised almost £1,000 since the start of term through a range of events including a quiz night, a Halloween party and selling sweets and other treats at the Ombersley Cricket Club bonfire.

The next bake-off will be hosted by year two on Friday, February 14. Cakes will be sold at the school gate at 3pm.
