Spa school starts European partnership project
4:30pm Monday 21st October 2013 in Local
A DROITWICH Spa school has played host to visiting teachers from Europe.
Teachers from France, Germany, Poland, Greece and Spain were at Westacre Middle School, Ombersley Way, from Monday, October 14 until Thursday, October 17.
The visit marked the start of a Multilateral Comenius Project called 'Growing from the Garden'.
Over the course of the next two years the children and staff of Westacre Middle School will work closely with their European partner schools in a variety of ways, including video conferencing and emailing as well as a range of creative activities which will be published on their shared website. It is hoped the Spa children will gain a good understanding of other cultures and traditions whilst reflecting on their own heritage.
On Wednesday, October 16, Mayor of Droitwich, Councillor Tom Noyes, visited the school to plant a pear tree as a symbol of the partnership between the schools. Creative children also attended the planting after entering a competition to design a logo for the project.
Carole Elbaz, headteacher from the French party, said: “We have been impressed by the quality of the relationships between the children and teachers at Westacre School."
