Community heroes to be recognised
4:10pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in Local
WYCHAVON District Council is searching for local heroes as it announces the 2013 Community Recognition Awards.
The council’s community development team wants to hear about volunteers, community and club leaders, community projects, coaches, athletes and artists who have made such an outstanding contribution to their society, club or community that they warrant recognition.
The 2013 Wychavon Community Recognition Awards has grown from last year’s Sport Development Award in order to include a wider group of people who might be worthy of recognition.
Fern Canning, assistant community development officer at Wychavon District Council, said: “We are looking for inspirational stories about people young and old who have tried to make their neighbourhood a better place. If you know someone who has made a real difference then all you have to do is nominate the individual or organisation you think deserves to win in their category and fill out the application form.”
The award categories are volunteers award, young volunteer, arts recognition award, sporting hero, community project award, community group award, disabled personality award and lifetime achievement award.
Nomination forms are available from the council’s website at wychavon.gov.uk/recognitionawards or from Fern Canning at firstname.lastname@example.org The deadline for applications is 5pm on Wednesday, November 27. The presentation of the awards will be on Wednesday, December 11, from 7pm, in the committee rooms of the Civic Centre in Pershore.
