People urged to take care during fire service strike
8:50am Wednesday 25th September 2013 in Local
PEOPLE are being urged to take extra care during planned industrial action by the fire service today.
Strike action at Hereford and Worcester Fire & Rescue Service (HWFRS) is set to take place between noon and 4pm.
Mark Preece, area commander of HWFRS, said “During the firefighter strikes we want people to be clear about what to do in the event of a fire. The most important point they need to know is that they will still get an emergency response and they should not be tempted to tackle fires themselves.
“The safest option is to evacuate, call for help and let specially trained personnel from the fire service and other emergency services take charge rather than attempting to tackle the fire yourself.
“General fire safety messages that we promote throughout the year become even more crucial at times of strike action.”
