A DROITWICH man is set to take on a cycling challenge to help the hospice that cares for his son.

Father of three, Steve Clay, who works for Legal & General as a pricing developer, is set to take part in the Acorns Children’s Hospice’s annual Severn Valley Cycle Challenge on Sunday, August 18.

His son Oliver, brother of ten year old twin Ben and four year old Thomas, has the life limiting condition Dystonic Cerebral Palsy, and has received several short care breaks at the hospice over the years.

The whole family, including wife Sam, also receive support from a community team worker who visits them at their home in Droitwich Spa.

Family man Steve, who company is also sponsoring the event, has taken part every year since the event began and will be completing the Severn Valley Cycle Challenge’s 20 mile route, although there are also 10 and 40 mile route options.

Acorns holds the annual cycle challenge to help raise funds to further its aim of helping to provide palliative care and support to the 2,000 children and their families in the region.

The scenic ride begins in the Severn Valley Country Park or Bridgnorth and ends in Bewdley.

Mr Clay said: “I’m so pleased my company is sponsoring the Acorns cycle challenge again; it means all the funds raised can go directly towards helping the children and families.

“This event is great because it’s accessible and easy for people to get involved in, even if they’re not experienced at cycling.

“I know first-hand how vital Acorns’ work is, and they rely on fundraising to keep going, so I really hope lots of people take part this year to help such a worthy cause.”
