DROITWICH Spa’s Heritage Centre is set to hold an exhibition about the life and works of Sir Edward Elgar.

The famous county composer will be showcased at the Victoria Square building throughout June and July.

Sir Edward William Elgar’s many works have entered the British and international classical concert repertoire. Among his best-known compositions are orchestral works including the Enigma Variations, the Pomp and Circumstance Marches, concertos for violin and cello, and two symphonies. He also composed choral works, including The Dream of Gerontius, chamber music and songs. He was appointed Master of the King's Musick in 1924.

Elgar was knighted in 1904 and in 1911 he was appointed a member of the Order of Merit.

From 1999 until early 2007, new Bank of England twenty pound notes featured a portrait of Elgar.
