Droitwich Spa Hospital quashes closure rumours

RUMOURS that Droitwich Spa’s private hospital is facing an uncertain future are wide-of-the-mark, according to the firm that runs the facility.

The Droitwich Spa Hospital, St Andrew’s Road, which is run by BMI Healthcare, isn’t in danger of closure despite reports surrounding the General Healthcare Group (GHG), of which BMI Healthcare is a part.

GHG is apparently "racing to secure a financial lifeline as it faces an autumn deadline to repay billions of pounds in loans", according to an article that appeared in the Sunday Times business supplement on Sunday, February 10.

It has led to rumours in the town that the private hospital, which also used to house Droitwich’s brine bath facility, will be shut.

However, a spokesman for BMI Healthcare, said: "Contrary to reports neither BMI Healthcare nor any of its hospitals are threatened by the situation around the General Healthcare Group property company refinancing its borrowings.

“BMI Healthcare continues to trade profitably as evidenced by our recently published results. BMI Healthcare’s patients, employees, suppliers and consultants are entirely unaffected by the current GHG matters.”

I hope these are just rumours, I had a small op a couple of years ago at this hospital, (as an NHS patient).

A very good facilty with excellent staff.
They should hang on in there, I believe private hospitals will start doing more and more NHS work the way things are going.
